PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe evaluated Budimex’s proposal as offering the most favourable terms for both design and comprehensive construction works in these sections, which form part of Stage II of the ongoing “Podłęże–Piekiełko” project.

The planned implementation period for these works is set at 38 to 46 months from signing the agreement.

The new rail line forms part of a broader initiative aimed at modernising regional connections in southern Poland, including enhanced links from Kraków towards Nowy Sącz and Zakopane.

The improvements are expected to reduce travel times within Małopolska and increase freight transport capacity.

The project incorporates 51 new turnouts, eight platforms, passages under tracks, bridges (both rail and road), viaducts, culverts, and retaining structures designed to manage traffic flows efficiently and reduce collision points.

Budimex president Artur Popko said: “The project will be implemented in a difficult and geologically complex area, requiring advanced technical solutions. It will result in a modern layout of the line – increasing the capacity and reliability of traffic, increasing safety at the rail-road junction and creating a reserve for the development of connections in the coming years.”

Budimex previously participated in earlier stages of the “Podłęże–Piekiełko” programme with work on modernising sections such as Chabówka-Rabka Zaryte.

The company is currently engaged in other major projects in the region including construction work on the Limanowa-Klęczany siding in partnership with Gülermak.

Furthermore, Budimex has completed various railway projects across Poland including upgrades at Warszawa Zachodnia station, Port of Gdynia railway junction, Czechowice-Dziedzice junction, and modernisation works on the Warsaw-Lublin route.

In addition to its Polish operations, Budimex continues to contribute to European railway infrastructure through its involvement with Rail Baltica projects in Estonia and Latvia.

These works support international rail connections aimed at improving logistics, mobility and economic integration within Europe.
