Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract valued at Dh633m ($172.3m) for the Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project, extending from Za’abeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street.
The project is aimed at improving road infrastructure along with public transport systems, supporting urban development.
Its scope includes constructing bridges and tunnels over 1,700m and street widening from three to four lanes in each direction.
This development is set to increase the capacity of the corridor by 33%, accommodating 8,800 vehicles per hour in both directions and minimising travel time to six minutes from 13 minutes.
RTA director general and executive director board chair Mattar Al Tayer said: “The project includes the construction of three tunnels totalling 1,200m at the intersection of Al Mustaqbal Street and Trade Centre Street.
“The first is a three-lane tunnel along Al Mustaqbal Street heading towards Deira, with a capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour. The second is a two-lane tunnel turning left from Al Mustaqbal Street onto Trade Centre Street, serving bidirectional traffic between Deira and Jebel Ali, with a combined capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour. The third is a single-lane tunnel dedicated to the One Central development, with a capacity of 1,500 vehicles per hour.

By GlobalData“The project entails the construction of a 450m, two-lane bridge serving traffic flowing from Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) towards the intersection of Za’abeel Palace Street and Al Mustaqbal Street.”
Additionally, free-flowing ramps are planned to be constructed to improve traffic movement at the intersections of Al Mustaqbal Street with both Exhibition Street and Trade Centre Street.
Furthermore, five bridges with a total length of 5,000m will be built. The existing roundabout is planned to be converted into a surface-level intersection. This is aimed at enhancing the flow of traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to 2nd December Street, and from Al Mustaqbal Street towards Sheikh Zayed Road (southbound).
Creative and aesthetic enhancements are also part of the project, including a cycling track, upgraded walkways for pedestrians, and decorative lighting.
Strengthening connectivity between nearby metro stations and major development zones, the project will enable integrated access for residents and visitors.
Last month, the RTA unveiled an extensive project to upgrade Al Wasl Road, aiming to enhance traffic flow and accommodate the city’s growing population.
