MT Højgaard Danmark, a business unit of MT Højgaard Holding, has secured a contract to build a new workshop for driverless trains and associated administration facilities in Vinge.

The contract, valued at an estimated DKr1.95bn ($299m), was awarded by DSB, with options for additional works up to DKr900m.

The project encompasses the development of a 25,000m² workshop, 14km of electrified railway tracks, administrative buildings, and related civil engineering works.

DSB’s approach to tendering the project allowed for early contractor, consultant, and architect involvement, setting the stage for a collaborative design phase from 2025 to 2028.

Upon completion of the design phase in 2028, the project will transition into the execution phase, with the turnkey contract becoming unconditional. The construction work is scheduled to continue until 2031.

MT Højgaard Danmark’s construction and refurbishment head Søren Sørensen said: “We are proud that we will be part of another large Danish infrastructure project for DSB with early involvement. The contract is a perfect fit with our strategic focus on projects where the contractor makes a mark on the project from the very beginning.

“This type of project constitutes an increasing share of our portfolio, and our employees have built strong competencies within such projects, which they have clearly documented in comparable cases over the last five years.”

As the appointed turnkey contractor, MT Højgaard Danmark will collaborate with a consortium of partners, including Artelia, Holm & Grut architects, Siemens, Systra, and Thing Brandt Landskab, for the workshop’s design.

While this order does not impact MT Højgaard Holding’s 2025 financial forecast, with anticipated revenues of DKr10bn to DKr10.5bn and an EBIT of DKr400m to DKr450m, it is expected to contribute to the company’s sustainable growth in the subsequent years.

In September 2024, MT Højgaard Danmark had been selected by social housing organisation AAB as the general contractor for the refurbishment of its department site at Stærevej in Copenhagen’s North West Block, Denmark.
