The London Borough of Waltham Forest in the UK has signed a £65m contract with Morrisons and Willmott Dixon to develop a 1.5-hectare site in Walthamstow town centre.

The mixed-use development will include a 75,000ft2 supermarket, 30,000 ft2 of non-food retail units and 230 one to four-bed apartments which will be built above the supermarket.

The project will feature a new community square, a green living wall and space for public art, as well as new pedestrian and cycle paths to improve connectivity to the town centre.

Morrisons and Willmott Dixon will start consultation on the draft plans this year and submit a planning application in 2012; the project is expected to be completed by 2015.
