W Hotels Worldwide will debut in France with the opening of its W Paris – Opera hotel on 14 February 2012 in Paris.

W Global Brand Design and Rockwell Group Europe (RGe), led by Diego Gronda, designed the hotel, which is owned by Meridia Capital.

Rockwell Group Europe managing and creative director Diego Gronda said: "Our design feeds off the elegance, richness and radiance of Paris, La Ville Lumiere, while layering in the contemporary cool and free-spirited energy of New York."

"Our goal is to transform this historic building into a W Hotel that literally shines with innovative and unexpected details, materials and technology," Gronda continued.

The five-storey hotel, set inside an 1870s Haussman-era heritage building, features 91 guest rooms, including 20 suites and two WOW Suites along with a restaurant, bar and fitness centre.

The guestrooms and suites will have high ceilings up to 3.5m and will offer views over Parisian streets and Opera Garnier.

A backlit bridge will cover the entrance corridor with white patterned lights; a sculptural faucet and moulding will complement the design concept of the guestrooms.

The WOW Suites will feature a 3mcircular bed set in the middle, as well as a shower that is concealed behind two huge, classical doors.

The design of the hotel centres around a backlit digital wall that defines the central core of the building and creates undulating patterns throughout the hotel’s public and private spaces.

Historic features of the building, including the ornamented columns, vaulted ceilings, marble staircases and fireplaces, have been partially restored to combine with the hotel’s contemporary atmosphere, while the original stained glass windows and mosaic flooring on the second floor will be protected.
