Finnish construction company YIT has initiated construction of the Asunto Oy Kuopio Maaherra apartment project in Kuopio, Finland.
The €15m ($17.1m) project will include a five-storey residential building with 51 homes, as well as two commercial premises and a parking facility offering 30 spaces.
Construction on the project commenced last month, and completion is set for the end of 2025.
The building will provide approximately 2,700m² of residential space and 160m² for business use.
YIT regional director Marjaana Nissilä-Ryytty said: “It is great that we are able to launch a new YIT self-developed project in Kuopio. Kuopion Maaherra will be located right in the heart of Kuopio, within walking distance of everything, and recreational facilities, cafés, cultural events, schools, and health services will be right on the doorstep. There is no better location than this in Kuopio.”
The apartments within Kuopio Maaherra will vary in size from 26m² to 116m², with options ranging from studio to four-bedroom layouts.

By GlobalDataYIT will provide shared spaces for the site’s residents, including a sauna with a terrace, a clubroom suitable for activities such as remote work, and a shared vehicle.
The building is designed to meet ‘A’ energy class standards, featuring roof-mounted solar panels for energy generation and apartment-specific monitoring to conserve water usage.
Sustainability is a key focus for the project, with a carbon footprint calculation influencing material selection to minimise environmental impact during construction.
Renewable electricity will power the site during construction, and at least 75% of the waste generated will be sorted for recycling.
Preparations have been made for electric car charging points in some parking spaces, and the project’s housing company will enforce a smoke-free policy, as stated in its articles of association.
YIT has developed similar projects in the area: Asunto Oy Kuopion Hovineito and Asunto Oy Kuopion Ruuturouva.
In January 2025, YIT began construction of another self-developed apartment building, Asunto Oy Tampereen Ohjaaja, in Tampere, Finland.
