Notably, the number of future of work-related patent applications in the construction industry was 524 in Q2 2024, versus 629 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 23% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Caterpillar filed the most future of work patents within the construction industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 33 future of work-related patents in the quarter, compared with 34 in the previous quarter. It was followed by China State Shipbuilding with 25 future of work patent filings, Komatsu (23 filings), and China Communications Construction Group (19 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 36% share of total patent filings
The largest share of future of work related patent filings in the construction industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 36%, followed by the US (17%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by China was 3% higher than the 33% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
