Parsons has been selected to expand its role in the Interstate 69 (I-69) Ohio River Crossing (ORX) project, which has been awarded by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

The company will now provide design oversight and construction inspection services for Section 3 of the project, which is a critical interstate connection between Indiana and Kentucky.

The five-year contract, valued at approximately $26m, extends Parsons' involvement in the project, which began in 2017 with initial design and environmental studies.

The I-69 ORX development is a significant national corridor, aiming to improve interstate connectivity, reduce congestion, and enhance safety.

Parsons North America Infrastructure president Mark Fialkowski said: “Our team has contributed to the I-69 ORX project since its inception in 2017, providing initial design, and environmental studies to help INDOT and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet complete this important national corridor.

“We look forward to continuing to provide our eight decades of road and highway experience, helping deliver a better transportation experience for residents and visitors moving through Indiana and Kentucky.”

The I-69 ORX project is seen as essential for cross-river connectivity between Evansville, Indiana, and Henderson, Kentucky.

It is structured into three sections, each with distinct construction and delivery phases.

The project has achieved significant milestones, including the publication of its final environmental impact statement and the receipt of federal approval in September 2021.

Section 1 - already under construction in Kentucky - is expected to be completed by late 2025.

Section 2, meanwhile, involves constructing a new four-lane river crossing.

Construction of this section is set to begin in 2027, with completion targeted for 2031. Efforts are underway to expedite this timeline.

Meanwhile, the design development for Section 3, the approach work in Indiana, is ongoing.

The design-build project was let in 2023, with construction anticipated to start in 2024 and conclude in 2026.
