Hertshten Properties has selected Mace as the construction partner for the new 32-storey mixed-use tower at 85 Gracechurch Street in London, UK.
The project, situated in the Leadenhall Conservation Area next to the Grade II-listed Leadenhall Market, is a Woods Bagot architectural design.
It will replace a 1930s office structure with around 235,000ft² of modern office space, advanced facilities for cyclists, and a terrace offering expansive views.
Aiming to be one of London's most environmentally friendly skyscrapers, this all-electric building strives to meet or surpass environmental benchmarks set by both the Greater London Authority and the city itself.
The goal is to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Outstanding rating when finished.
The design incorporates energy-saving mechanical systems, extensive greening initiatives, natural ventilation solutions, and an automated cycle hub with 444 parking spaces for bicycles.
The site's archaeological history has influenced the design, stated Mace.
The project also includes restoring a walkway between Gracechurch Street and Lime Street Passage to enhance local connectivity and contribute to Leadenhall Market's evolution into a lively hub open throughout the week.
Hertshten Properties UK CEO Ron Hertshten said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mace as the main contractor for 85 Gracechurch Street.
“85 Gracechurch will be a state-of-the-art office building, delivering approximately 235,000ft² of premium office space alongside a host of extraordinary amenities.
“Designed to achieve market-leading environmental performance, the development will set a new benchmark for sustainable office space in the City of London."
Mace has now begun the pre-construction services agreement stage following a successful bid process.
The expected completion date for the development is 2030.
Earlier this month, Mace joined hands with Arup as programme management partner for Northern Metropolis, Hong Kong.
