AECOM Hunt and Turner to build Ohio’s first enclosed stadium

The project's timeline aims for completion of the stadium and the first phase of the surrounding development by 2029.

AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction have been named as construction managers for the new enclosed stadium project, dubbed Huntington Bank Field, in Ohio, US.

The section was made by Haslam Sports Group and the Cleveland Browns.

The venue is planned to host a range of events throughout the year in addition to American football games.

The stadium is expected to host large-scale events such as National Collegiate Athletic Association Final Four games, international football matches, and concerts.

The stadium will form part of a larger economic development project in Northeast Ohio.

Plans for the project include a mixed-use entertainment district managed by Lincoln Property Company.

HKS, an architecture company that previously worked with Turner and AECOM Hunt on SoFi Stadium, has designed the project.

The design of Huntington Bank Field takes inspiration from Lake Erie and the city of Cleveland.

The project includes several key features, including the flexible 'Super Theater' concept that will have 67,500 seats.

The stadium’s seating arrangement will reportedly place fans closer to the field than at any other National Football League stadium.

It will also include a translucent roof inspired by Cleveland’s atriums, allowing natural light to enter throughout the venue.

The roofing system will use a long-span design without a truss, which is intended to improve sightlines and overall design across the building.

The project is expected to generate more than 6,000 construction jobs and create additional full-time positions within both the stadium and the neighbouring development.

Site preparation for Huntington Bank Field started earlier this month.

The official ground-breaking is scheduled for early 2026.

Turner Construction Company senior vice-president Jason Jones said: “As enabling work begins in October and ground-breaking follows early next year, we’re building the momentum to deliver lasting benefits for the community and the region.

"We’re proud to involve local people and businesses while drawing on our expertise in complex sports venues. Together with AECOM Hunt, we’re ready to create a transformative stadium that will serve Cleveland, Northeast Ohio, and Browns fans for generations.”

The project timeline targets completion of the stadium and the first phase of the surrounding development by 2029.
