Acciona, as a member of the ActivUs consortium, has been awarded the contract to deliver the major works package for the Logan and Gold Coast (LGC) Faster Rail project in south-east Queensland, Australia.

The consortium, which also includes CPB Contractors, UGL, SMEC and WSP, will carry out these works in partnership with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail.

The contract covers significant upgrades between Kuraby and Beenleigh, a section of the rail corridor identified as a key bottleneck on the network.

Under this package, the number of tracks along a 20km stretch will increase from two to four.

The scope also includes modernisation of stations with improved accessibility features, expanded park-and-ride facilities, and better connections for pedestrians and cyclists.

Level crossings will be removed at Woodridge, Bethania and Holmview to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion.

These major works form part of the broader LGC Faster Rail project, which is valued at AUD5.75bn ($4.03bn).

The overall project aims to increase rail capacity and reliability between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in response to growing demand ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Site establishment and early works for this contract are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026, with major construction activities planned to follow later that year.

According to Acciona, the initiative will improve the efficiency and frequency of public transport services in south-east Queensland.

The improvements are expected to allow more frequent services between Brisbane and the Gold Coast by addressing current operational constraints where trains must wait on single-track sections to allow express services to pass.
