ACCIONA has won a contract worth 2.09bn reais ($389.71m) from the City Council of São Paulo, Brazil for the construction of a road segment that will link Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho to the Rodovia dos Imigrantes.

Under the contract, ACCIONA will carry out work on a 4.7km route, adding three lanes to each direction of the carriageway. The contract also covers the building of three viaducts, two tunnels and a dedicated cycle lane.

Additional components of the works consist of drainage measures to divert an existing stormwater channel and the creation of a landscaped park featuring recreational zones.

The extension of Avenida Roberto Marinho aims to improve access between southern São Paulo and one of Brazil’s primary highways, with the intention of alleviating traffic congestion and strengthening connectivity to the Rodovia dos Imigrantes.

The development will also increase public space availability, add cycling facilities and establish a green corridor for local residents.

ACCIONA is currently engaged in several major projects across Brazil and Latin America, including Line 6 of the São Paulo Metro, which will link Brasilândia to the city centre.

Line 6 has already generated over 11,000 jobs and, once in operation, will be able to serve more than 630,000 passengers each day.

In partnership with Sanepar in Paraná and CESAN in Espírito Santo, ACCIONA participates in water and sanitation projects.

More recently, it secured a sanitation concession in Pernambuco through a consortium with BRK Ambiental.

Past projects delivered by ACCIONA in Brazil include Terminal 2 at the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro and the redevelopment of São Paulo’s Júlio Prestes railway station into a concert venue.
