Finnish construction company YIT has been appointed by Janakkala municipality to construct a new €19m school and multipurpose centre in Turenki, Finland.

The new development will be constructed on the same site of an existing primary school site and will be linked with a corridor to the existing library and sports facilities.

The initial phase of the new centre will be a three-storey, about 8,400m2 building comprising facilities for one to six grades and preschool education.

YIT stated that the school yards will be constructed between the new building and the artificial grass field.

The multipurpose facilities at the new project site will house facilities for associations and residents for evening and weekend use as well as for recreational activities.

Some of the renewable energy sources such as geothermal heat and solar panels will be used in the building.

The new school is scheduled to be opened in autumn 2023.

Recently, the construction company was awarded a contract worth €38m to deliver a new multi-purpose building in Valkeala as a life cycle model project.

The new 10,000m2 building will comprise schools for basic education and early childhood education, along with facilities for the youth services, local library, a catering kitchen and the Kymsote family centre.
It will also serve as a leisure and activity centre for residents and associations during evenings and weekends.

YIT’s scope of work under the contract involves construction, planning and maintenance of the new multi-purpose building as well as its yard areas for about 20-year service period at a pre-agreed cost.
