Work has commenced for clearing a construction site in Bridgend County Borough, UK, to develop a new children’s placement and assessment hub.

This hub is being jointly funded by Bridgend County Borough Council and Welsh Government, through the Integrated Care Fund (ICF) capital programme.

Being constructed on the site of a former primary school in Brynmenyn, the project will bring a range of services for children and young people.

Contractor Prichard’s is responsible for undertaking the demolition of the former school building which has been lying vacant since 2018 when the complete school shifted to a new location.

It is expected to take up to 12 weeks for demolition and site clearance.

Bridgend County Borough Council Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help Nicole Burnett said: “We are working to ensure there is minimal disruption to local residents and passing traffic and with no road closures planned, we are not anticipating any major impact on the local area. The demolition is the first phase of this project helping to make way for the development of the new children’s placement and assessment hub.”

This new development is part of the council’s Improving Outcomes for People Programme, and will offer accommodation, care and support services for children and young people.

Burnett added: “Being purpose-built, it will help to maximise the health, safety and wellbeing of our care-experienced children and young people, providing a modern environment for them, and the staff who take care of them while the most suitable long-term care plans are developed.”
