The construction works have completed on the new £14.5m three-storey campus building for The Northern School of Art in Middlesbrough, UK.

Completed by BAM Construction’s North East team, the new building will allow the college-level campus of The Northern School of Art to relocate from its former premises in Linthorpe.

The new building, which has been designed by architect Seven Architecture, will house more than 750 students.

It includes more than 5,000m2 of teaching space along with studios for digital media, textiles, photography, fine art, fashion, and 3D product design.

The Northern School of Art offers a range of design, arts, film, and theatre courses.

The new purpose-built building features polished concrete flooring, an exposed concrete frame, exposed thermal mass to moderate internal temperatures.

Investment from the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority funded the project along with support from Middlesbrough Council.

BAM North East construction director Tony Fitzgerald said: “The school’s relocation to this exciting new facility provides the students and staff of the north’s only specialist art and design college with a modern and sustainable new learning space, whilst supporting Middlesbrough’s creative and digital city vision.

“This project not only underlines BAM’s continued and long-established association with the North East, it also highlights our approach to delivering social value to the wider community.

“A good example of this was the project team’s commitment to supporting the local economy by working with local supply chain partners and helping to develop the next generation of talent for our industry by working with Hartlepool College to arrange work experience placements throughout the project.”

Recently, the company delivered High Tunstall College of Science in Hartlepool, English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College, The Curve Teesside University, and Ingleby Manor Free School.
