New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the start of construction of a mixed-use redevelopment project under the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) in Batavia.
DRI, launched by Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2016, is aimed at revitalising downtowns and neighbourhood to serve as centres of activity and catalysts for investment in all 10 regions of the state.

Located at 45-47 Ellicott Street in Batavia’s downtown, the $2.5m Ellicott Place project is managed by Empire State Development. It has been awarded $1.15m through Batavia’s $10m DRI.
The scope of the project will include the refurbishment of a 48,899ft² building by converting the vacant first-floor area covering 10,000ft² into commercial space.
The building, originally constructed for a department store, is now occupied by a retail grocer that uses nearly half of the first level. The remainder of the structure is currently vacant.
The project will feature first-floor interior parking along with a new elevator, façade upgrades and ten second floor 1-2-bedroom units. Upon completion, the project will create nearly 30 jobs new jobs in the newly developed commercial space.

By GlobalDataV.J. Gautieri Constructors will be responsible for the construction of the project, which will rejuvenate the overall building and bring additional activity and residents to downtown Batavia.
Governor Cuomo said: “For many New Yorkers, the economic recovery from the pandemic is tied directly to the availability of quality homes and jobs.
“This new mixed redevelopment project continues our commitment to investing in communities across the state, improving quality of life for residents and building back a better, stronger New York for all.”
