The Government of Western Australia has announced the start of work on the $15m redevelopment project at Leschenault Leisure Centre in Australia.

The upgrades to the Leschenault Leisure Centre will include building spectator seating, up to four new indoor courts, a retractable grandstand, and a mezzanine level along with a platform for events.

The project will also include addition of supporting infrastructure such as a universal access toilet, crèche, café, and wheelchair and pram access to all courts.

Sports shop along with amenities for storage and training will also be added at the facility.

Detailed design and planning for the redevelopment project is anticipated to be completed by May this year.

The McGowan Government is providing $3m funding for the project through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and the Shire of Harvey is providing $6m.

The Western Australian government noted that the upgrades to the Leschenault Leisure Centre will allow to provide crucial sporting facilities for communities in the state.

Western Australia Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman said: “Keeping local and regional communities healthy, strong and connected is a key priority for the McGowan Government.

“This investment will benefit the Harvey community and the greater South-West region, by allowing the centre to expand its sports programs and attract country and regional competitions.

“This is an exciting project that focuses on the principles of universal design to provide a sporting and recreation space that is welcoming and all-inclusive.”
