UK-based Winvic Construction has won a £21m contract from developer IM Properties to provide civil and infrastructure works for Mercia Park, a 238-acre employment park to be located in Leicestershire, UK.

Located next to junction 11 of the M42, the employment park upon completion will be home to major companies like Jaguar Land Rover and DSV Group.

The scope of the contract will involve extensive earthworks, where more than one million m3 of material will be excavated and remodelled to prepare the ground for the project.

At present, a Volvo EC950 crawler excavator has been deployed on-site to carry out a major proportion of earthmoving works. The Volvo machine can excavate 7m3 of material and lift up to 39,900kg in each bucket-load.

As part of the contract, Winvic will also install 7,500m of underground drainage.

Work will also include the construction of three areas of highways and footpaths throughout the park and extensive landscaping works, including up to 30 acres of new woodland.

The civils and infrastructure works already started in June this year and will be completed by December 2021.

Winvic director of civil and infrastructure Rob Cook said: “Our clients understand that we deliver schemes of any scale in a safe, expeditious and commercially viable way.

“Having worked with IM Properties on many other projects, it’s rewarding to know their team have confidence in everything we deliver; utilising the specialist trimble based machines and remodelling the plateaux intelligently to avoid disposing of excesses of material off-site illustrates our strategic outlook to design, regardless of the sector or size.”

IM Properties UK project director Jason Jasper said: “When developing a scheme of this scale, it’s important to partner with trusted suppliers who not only have the resources and skills to deliver the project, but share in our commitment to create a best in class scheme, working with the local community and creating a positive lasting legacy we can all be proud of.”
