Central Bedfordshire Council in the UK has appointed Willmott Dixon to deliver the new £43m Chiltern Vale Integrated Health and Care Hub in Dunstable, England.

The 6,375m² Chiltern Vale Integrated Health and Care Hub consists of four storeys and has been procured using the LHC framework.

By bringing together care professionals under one roof, the health hub will deliver wellbeing for the local community with support from the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group.

It will provide a wide range of services, including community mental health and children’s services.

As part of the project, Willmott Dixon will also construct 98 homes for residents aged above 55, offering a combination of one and two bedroom apartments.

Central Bedfordshire Council Housing & Assets executive member Eugene Ghent said: “I’m delighted we have Willmott Dixon on board and can start work on this exciting development, which will provide much needed housing and a building for health and care services.”

“Willmott Dixon has a strong track record in delivering health and care hubs, and is committed to working in a sustainable and responsible way.”

Working with Central Bedfordshire Council, the Clinical Commissioning Group, GPs and local NHS providers, the company’s team of construction specialists developed the service model and schedule of accommodation.

This was designed on the principles of Willmott Dixon’s pre-designed integrated health and care hub concept called cura, which can enable a bespoke internal layout and future adaptability to meet service changes.

During Covid-19, the company worked with the customer on making changes to the internal layout to include resilience against existing and future pandemics.
