Willmott Dixon, a UK-based construction services provider, has secured a contract to build a new £21m Leisure Centre and community hub in Morpeth, UK.

The Northumberland County Council has provided funding for the project, which will be built on The Terrace site on Gas House Lane in Morpeth.

The development will include a six-lane swimming pool with a spectator gallery, a learner pool, spa facilities and a four-court sports hall.

It will also include a new 100 station fitness suite, a dedicated cycling studio as well as large fitness studios, a cafe area and soft play.

A new community services hub, a customer service centre and a new adult learning facility with classrooms for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning and catering will also be included in the new sports complex.

Willmott Dixon is planning to commence construction on the project by November 2020 and is expected to complete in summer 2022.

Active Northumberland, the charitable trust that manages leisure services across the county, will run the new sports complex on behalf of Northumberland County Council.

Willmott Dixon said that the new complex is a part of Northumberland County Council’s £65m countywide investment programme to upgrade and transform sport and leisure facilities and to improve the customer experience.

Anthony Dillon, managing director for Willmott Dixon in the north, said: “The creation of top-quality leisure facilities to encourage health and wellbeing are vital to help our communities thrive.

“Morpeth Leisure Centre will combine that with a new community services hub; a space that will bring people together and create a fantastic learning environment.”
