Great Yarmouth Borough Council in the UK has appointed Willmott Dixon as the development partner for the North Quays Waterfront regeneration project.

The collaboration aims to create a mixed-use development through a combination of leisure, retail, residential, and public spaces.

This regeneration initiative seeks to generate employment and encourage tourism.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council leader and councillor Carl Smith said: “We are hugely excited to be bringing forward the town’s most significant development opportunity in a generation. North Quay is a key site which will become a vibrant new destination and will further enhance the town’s already prosperous economic future.

“We owe it to our residents and all those who love Great Yarmouth to create a scheme which will live up to our inspiring and innovative history. We look forward to working with Willmott Dixon who share this vision.”

The project aims to respect the town’s heritage while introducing amenities to benefit residents, businesses, and visitors.

Improving connectivity and accessibility is a key objective for Willmott Dixon’s team, with a focus on enhancing the strategic role of North Quays as a gateway to the town centre. The site’s proximity to the town train station is particularly crucial in these plans.

Community consultation and stakeholder engagement are scheduled for later this year to refine the proposals before a formal planning application is submitted in early 2026.

Willmott Dixon national head of land and development David Atkinson said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing forward an exciting mixed-use regeneration project in Great Yarmouth. North Quay represents a fantastic opportunity to deliver long-term benefits for the local community and visitors – including new homes, commercial spaces, jobs and public spaces which support Great Yarmouth’s growth.

“Over the coming months we’re looking forward to working with local stakeholders to share our exciting ideas for the transformation of this key site.”

The 10.5-acre site’s regeneration plan follows a bid by the council last year, garnering £20m ($26.6m) from the national government’s Levelling Up Fund. This financial injection is intended to prepare North Quay for development and start land assembly.

Willmott Dixon has also carried out the regeneration of Dover’s town centre and the towns of Torquay and Paignton.
