UK-based construction services provider Willmott Dixon has started construction of a £9.8m extension and refurbishment project at Iveshead School in Shepshed, Loughborough.

Procured through the SCAPE Major Works Framework, the project is being funded by Leicestershire County Council.

Slated to be completed in early 2022, the project will involve complete refurbishment of the Iveshead Secondary School, construction of six-classroom extension, creation of a school foyer entrance, hard play areas as well as outdoor canopy.

It will also include creation of cycle spaces for staff and student, as well as new and enhanced pathways and external landscaping works.

Work will also include refurbishment for the former Shepshed High School building to make its facilities suitable for younger pupils.

Designed by CPMG Architects, the project will see the relocation of St Botolph’s Church of England Primary School to the previous Shepshed High School building.

The existing St Botolph’s Church of England Primary School will be demolished.

This development will also bring the students in the existing Iveshead Secondary School into a single building.

SCAPE chief executive Mark Robinson said: “The need for future generations to have access to outstanding educational environments has never been more pressing.

“Leicestershire County Council, with the support of Willmott Dixon, are leading this charge by delivering additional classroom spaces and state of the art facilities at Iveshed Secondary School.

“At SCAPE, we are proud to play our part in accelerating the delivery of these important upgrades and help to create engaging spaces that will give the children a lifelong passion for learning.”
