Nationwide provider of consulting services to government agencies, private parties and utilities, Willdan Group, Inc. has been awarded the Pueblo County School District 70 (Pueblo D70) $76m design-build contract for facility improvements.

As this is a progressive design-build contract, Willdan will be paid for its services in a series of fees and executed amendments.

Pueblo D70, the second largest school district in Colorado state will pay a first fee of $1.4m in lieu of design and pre-construction work carried out until the execution of the first amendment.

Willdan’s engineering and construction management will improve the facilities of 19 schools and four district buildings.

With Willdan’s help Pueblo D70 obtained a BEST grant along with a voter-approved bond measure, which will be used to finance these latest upgrades.

While most of the funds will be utilised for major mechanical, plumbing and electrical upgrades, $6.3m will be set aside for districtwide security upgrades, infection control, and Covid-19 mitigation measures.

Scheduled to start in summer 2021, scope of work includes minor and major sitework on parking lots, roof replacements and repairs; sidewalks, and drainage; new windows and doors; and classroom remodelling.

Willdan CEO and chairman Tom Brisbin said: “The District took an important step when we created a facility master plan together. We’re pleased to be here now, turning that plan into real projects that will benefit local students and teachers for years to come.”

Beginning to work with Pueblo D70 from 2016 on terms of a district-wide, 15-year master plan, Willdan offered energy-efficient upgrades through an energy performance contract to fund the district’s core infrastructure needs in 2018.

Willdan’s services include engineering and planning, electric grid solutions, energy efficiency and sustainability, and municipal financial consulting.
