Westminster City Council has granted approval for the redevelopment of the Ebury Bridge Estate in the heart of central London, the UK.

The project will see the creation of nearly 758 homes, out of which nearly 386 will be affordable homes. It will also include a new community hub, nursery and fitness centre for residents and visitors.

The council noted that the new development aims to be almost car-free, with disabled car parking only and will have priority for pedestrian and cycle transport by creating more than 2,000 cycle spaces for residents.

The project will involve complete redevelopment of the current estate and will include 239 council homes.

In May last year, the council selected construction company Bouygues UK to design and build the first phase of the Ebury Bridge Estate.

Westminster City Council stated that the new development will use 90% less carbon compared to the current estate.

As part of the council’s ambition to reach zero carbon by 2040, the council will work together with Bouygues to meet sustainable development accreditations for the BREEAM Communities Excellent standard as well as the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Westminster City Council Growth Planning and Housing executive director Debbie Jackson said: “The development of the Ebury Bridge Estate will see more than 400 additional new homes built. This includes 53% affordable homes.

“The new homes will use 90% less carbon compared to the existing estate and it will be a low car scheme.

“The right to return for residents is guaranteed for all secure tenants and resident leaseholders.”
