
Western Australia (WA) has recorded a 25.1% increase in new home completions, reaching 22,602 in the 2024-25 financial year, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
This marked the highest number of home completions in the state in eight years and represented the strongest growth nationwide.

In contrast, ABS data shows the number of new homes built across Australia on a national scale fell by 2% during the same period.
As of 30 June 2025, the number of homes under construction in WA rose to 23,063, with commencements for the June quarter climbing 11.5% to 6,088.
This continued growth in new housing supply aligns with other official indicators such as building approvals, which reached 23,130 in the year to August.
WA Premier Roger Cook said: “Western Australia’s growing population means our State has a very high demand for housing. That’s why it’s really pleasing to see an uplift in building completions in the year to June, getting us closer to our target set with the Commonwealth Government to build 25,000 homes a year.

The data indicates that measures introduced by the Cook state government to increase housing supply are showing results.
These measures include funding infrastructure that supports housing, implementing planning changes, increasing investment in social and affordable housing, providing incentives to expand rental housing, and taking steps to expand the construction workforce.
The number of construction workers in WA averaged over 155,000 for the year to August 2025, nearing the record level set in the year to February 2025 period.
WA Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti: “Western Australia is leading the nation in housing completions with the number of new homes built in the last financial year reaching the highest levels seen in eight years.
“Our government is focused on ensuring every Western Australian has access to a quality home and this data shows our efforts are working.”
The government also recently introduced the A$210m ($140.7m) Urban Connect Shared Equity scheme aimed at supporting the purchase of new apartments and townhouses.
This initiative intends to help more residents enter the housing market and further increase housing availability across the state.
