Webuild’s US subsidiary Lane has secured a $223m design-and-build contract to boost the safety and operational efficiency of the I-275/I-4 highway interchange in Tampa, Florida, US.

This highway interchange is used by 200,000 vehicles daily.

It also emphasises the importance of North America as a core market for Webuild, responsible for 21% of the Group’s consolidated revenues in 2021 amid promises of further growth as the U.S. government rolls out major investment plans for the infrastructure sector.

The contract, which has commissioned by the Florida Department of Transportation, will boost the interchange’s role in helping the I-275/I-4 serve as a main hurricane evacuation route for the greater Tampa Bay area.

The work under the contract involves widening, changing and realigning ramps; updating signage; and erecting noise barriers.

Construction is slated to commence in 2023.

Lane is currently working on an adjacent contract to boost safety and traffic operations, among other works, along the I-275 Corridor.

The latest contract is the second to be won by Lane in Florida this year.

In May, it was selected for upgrading an air force base in Panama City after it was damaged by Hurricane Michael in 2018.
