Webuild-led consortium has signed a contract to construct the initial section of Line 10 of the Naples Metro in Italy, with design and construction works now under way.
The agreement, valued at about €660m ($757m), covers Phase 1A of Lot 1, which will span 6.5km and include seven stations in Naples and the neighbouring municipalities of Afragola, Casoria and Casavatore.

The full Lot 1 is expected to reach a total contract value exceeding €1.7bn, should additional works go ahead as planned.
The new metro line will connect the city centre with the Naples-Afragola High-Speed Rail Station in approximately 20 minutes once complete.
Phase 1A will see three stations fully built – Di Vittorio, Casoria Centro, and Afragola Centro – and four stations partially constructed in this first phase.
Completion of Lot 1 envisions an extra 7.3km of track, five new stations, the completion of four partially initiated stations from Phase 1A, and the addition of a parking facility with roughly 1,000 spaces at Naples-Afragola station.
Line 10 is part of a larger investment effort that exceeds €3.1bn and aims to provide improved mobility for more than 650,000 residents in north-eastern Naples.
The project is also expected to support employment throughout its development. The first section is forecast to create around 700 jobs during initial construction, rising to up to 1,500 jobs once the project is fully completed.
The line will facilitate connections with existing transport networks.
Di Vittorio station will serve as an interchange with Metro Lines 1 and 11 during the first phase.
Upon completion, further interchanges are planned at Piazza Garibaldi, linking with Metro Lines 1 and 2, Circumvesuviana services, national rail routes and at Casoria-Afragola station via regional train lines.
The route is also expected to support redevelopment along its length, including improvements to public spaces and the creation of new green areas.
Alongside Webuild, other consortium members include Eteria Consorzio Stabile, Costruire, ICM and M.N. Metropolitana di Napoli.
Webuild currently oversees a portfolio of 21 projects in southern Italy valued at over €16bn and employs more than 10,000 people directly or indirectly in the region.
The company is also engaged in construction on four sections of the Naples–Bari high-speed rail line and on Lot 1A of the Salerno–Reggio Calabria high-speed railway.
Officials present at the signing ceremony included Campania Region President Roberto Fico, Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, Webuild CEO Pietro Salini, EAV president Umberto De Gregorio and Edoardo Cosenza from Naples’ municipal infrastructure department.
Salini said: “The new Line 10, in addition to being an engineering work that shortens the distance between the city centre, the hinterland and the high-speed rail network, represents a fundamental piece for the sustainable modernisation of a city that, strengthened by its own history, aims to once again bring innovation to urban transport.”
