Construction and civil engineering firm Webuild along with its joint venture partner Implenia has started construction on Lot H41 Gola del Sill-Pfons on the Austrian side of the Brenner Base Tunnel.
Webuild holds a 50% stake in the JV, while Swiss construction services company Implenia holds the remaining 50% interest in the JV.

Webuild secured a contract valued at $737.7m (€651m) in November last year. The contract will create 400 direct jobs.
As part of the Lot H41 contract, Webuild and its Swiss subsidiary CSC Costruzioni will construct the railway from Gola del Sill near the city of Innsbruck in the north to the town of Pfons.
It includes a total of 22.5km main tunnel tubes and 38 cross passages with a total length of about 2.3km.
The company will also construct an underground emergency stop at Innsbruck, access tunnels, exploratory tunnels and parts of other secondary tunnels.

By GlobalDataWebuild completed Lot Tulfes-Pfons and is currently constructing other lots such as the Isarco River Underpass and Mules 2-3.
The company is also working on the railway between Fortezza and Ponte Gardena south of the tunnel.
At 64km, Brenner Base Tunnel will become the longest railway tunnel in the world.
Webuild, in a statement, said: “The Brenner Base Tunnel is crucial for Europe. It will be a key part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) that will connect Helsinki in Finland and La Valletta in Malta. It also plays an important role in connecting Italy and Austria with a high-speed/high-capacity railway.”
