Continental’s powertrain business Vitesco Technologies has announced plans to construct a new research and development (R&D) centre in China.
To build the R&D facility, the firm has signed a corresponding agreement with the Administration Committee of the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA).

Vitesco will develop technologies for hybrid and electric powertrains in the new R&D centre.
To be built in the Chinese port metropolis of Tianjin, the facility will include office space as well as a test lab where electric drive technologies can be tested and validated with several advanced test facilities.
The new complex, with a gross floor area of 9,000m², will be added to the facility where Vitesco is manufacturing the fully integrated electric axle drive system for PSA and Hyundai from October last year.

The portfolio of Vitesco ranges from 48-volt mild hybrid technologies and key components for hybrid to full battery-electric powertrains that includes power electronics, charging, battery management system and electric axle drive.
