City of Gothenburg senior project manager Karl Johan Canestedt said: “Gothenburg sees rain about every third day – which means that not only should you learn to like it, but also to make the best of it. The contractor Veidekke is doing just that, by making available their best resources to turn our vision into reality.

“Torslandaskolan is designed for both students and teachers to have fun in the rain, while delaying the water’s entry into the stormwater system, to avoid congesting our drainage pipes in the event of heavy rainfall.”

Veidekke will be responsible for construction of approximately 8,900m2 gross area over three floors.

A pilot project, this school is a part of the city’s commitment to make its buildings and their environments more accessible and inclusive to any user.

The expects that almost 600 students, including those with special requirements, will have a school that places great emphasis on sustainability and equality.

Veidekke Bygg Väst project manager Anders Holmqvist said: “We appreciate having the City of Gothenburg’s confidence and look forward to constructing an excellent learning environment for our children.”

The contract figures in the order book for the current quarter.
