Veidekke has received a contract from Ringsaker municipality in Norway to design and build a new nursing home in Moelv.

The contract is valued at $28.3m (NOK250m), excluding VAT.

The new building will offer 60 nursing home places. It will also include a day centre, a canteen, sensory gardens and plentiful communal spaces.

Veidekke said that the Moelv Nursing Home will make use of wood extensively both externally and internally that would complement the environmentally-friendly concrete.

Furthermore, energy wells would offer cooling and heating for the project.

The nursing home will have a total usable area of 6,200m2, which will be spread over three storeys.

The building is planned to be connected to the Moelv Residential and Activity Centre.

Veidekke Bygg Indre Østland district manager Geirmund Østvold said: “We are so grateful for this commission and delighted that we will have the opportunity to progress this project.

“Working in partnership with the municipality of Ringsaker, we are going to build a sustainable, future-oriented nursing home that will benefit its residents, their loved ones and staff.”

The Norwegian construction company plans to start preparatory work on the project in January 2022, with groundworks planned in March 2022.

Construction work will start in May, with completion slated by the end of 2023.

Recently, Veidekke bagged a $43m (NOK393m) contract from Ferd Eiendom to design and build the Humlehagen housing project, comprising 133 apartments and nine townhouses, at Ensjø in Oslo, Norway.

The Humlehagen (‘bumble bee garden’) will be developed in Gladengveien in Ensjø, close to Tiedemannsbyen, where Ferd Eiendom has already developed 1,200 homes.
