ULiving, a subsidiary of French company Bouygues, has secured a £98m tender for design, construction, finance and operation of latest phase of the University of Essex’s Colchester campus expansion.

The tender was secured through the company’s ULiving university development arm along with Bouygues UK.

The contract is for the phase 2b and 2c of the Meadows accommodation development scheme.

The scope of work for the project involves construction of five new student accommodation buildings at the Colchester campus.

This will add nearly 1,262 new bedrooms to the accommodation facility at the campus. It will include a mix of standard, ensuite and with studio rooms.

The new building will also include reception, administrative area, student services centre, laundrettes and staff welfare facilities.

The expansion project is expected to be completed and ready to be occupied by students for the start of the 2023/2024 academic year.

Under the contract, Bouygues UK will be responsible for the design and construction of the new accommodation building, while ULiving will operate the residences for 50 years after completion of the construction.

In June this year, Bouygues UK was appointed to construct a new £30m office development in Swansea, the UK.

The five-storey, hi-tech office development will feature 114,000ft2 of space for tech, digital and creative businesses.

Slated to complete in early 2023, the project will provide space for more than 600 jobs in the tech and digital sectors in Swansea city centre.

The development will feature two underground levels, a roof terrace, greenery and balconies overlooking the city centre and Swansea Bay.
