Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) has announced its plans to start construction of the 12-inch wafer plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, later this year, reported Taipei Times.
The new plant will be constructed at the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park.
Kaohsiung City government officials broke ground of the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park on 31 July 2022.
The park is located on the prior site of a naphtha cracking plant owned by CPC Taiwan, the state-owned refiner.
TSMC’s presence in the industrial park will aid Taiwan to develop a semiconductor cluster within five years.

By GlobalDataIn November 2021, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing unveiled its plan to open a plant at the park.
The plant is expected to utilise 7-nanometer process and the 28-nanometer process to manufacture chips.
Production at the plant is expected to commence in 2024. It is anticipated to create about 1,500 jobs.
Although TSMC has not revealed any investment for the new facility, it is expected that the plant could cost anywhere between $6.67bn to $10bn, reported the publication.
In April, the plant passed an environmental impact assessment.
