China-based Tianyuan Construction Group has announced that the jacking reconstruction work on the Yihe Bridge project is expected to complete by early April this year.

The 1210.72m-by-23m bridge has a jacking height of 1,050m and is located on Beijing Road in the south of Linyi city in Shandong province, China.

Once the renovation is complete, the bridge will be 1792m-by-52m.

The reconstruction works involve simultaneous jacking or structural lifting of the two 15m-wide bridges on the north and south sides of Yihe Bridge.

Besides, the entire upper structure of the old bridge will be lifted by 2.57m.

Work to heighten the cover beam of the southern section of the bridge is currently underway and is set to finish in early April.

The lifting of northern section of the bridge was finished in November last year, while the southern section was lifted in February this year.

Furthermore, the entire project is anticipated to complete by 1 October 2022.

Tianyuan Construction Group reconstruction project in-charge Li Baoqiang said: “The successful completion of the Beijing Road Yihe Bridge jacking project will greatly ease the traffic situation between Beicheng New District and Hedong District.”

The company has installed around 19 sets of limiters on the bridge deck to ensure the stability of the equipment on the bridge during the jacking process

According to the company, this will prevent horizontal and vertical displacement of the beam body during the jacking process.

Apart from installing limiters, a PLC hydraulic synchronous control system was also incorporated to ensure synchronisation and structural safety.

Static and dynamic load tests were conducted on the bridge in November 2019, which showed that the bridge had sufficient safety reserves and demolishing the structure can be avoided.

However, the superstructure of the old bridge had to be raised to meet the flood control requirements.
