Assar reported a turnover of around €16.5m ($17.8m) in 2024.
The architectural practice has carried out projects involving the Nato headquarters, major hospitals in Belgium, and buildings for European institutions and multinational companies.
The company is known for its work in both the public and private sectors, covering office and commercial buildings, defence, healthcare, urban planning, and education.
The acquisition comes as both Belgium and Luxembourg pursue urban renewal focused on sustainable, energy-efficient, and digitally advanced infrastructure, stated Sweco.

Sweco Belgium business area president Erwin Malcorps said: “I warmly welcome Assar Architects and their inclusion as a new and important part of Sweco, the European leader in architecture and engineering consulting.
“We have collaborated successfully on client projects in healthcare, government and defence as well as on complex urban development projects subject to stringent sustainability standards. Together we will be ideally positioned to deliver maximum client value in the ongoing green transition and modernisation of the built environment in our regions.”
This latest deal follows Sweco’s 2023 acquisition of VK architects+engineers, which added 600 professionals to its workforce.
The move forms part of Sweco’s broader strategy to grow its operations through acquisitions that enhance its capabilities.
The group employs approximately 22,000 people and has carried out more than 160 acquisitions in the last two decades.
In July this year, Sweco collaborated with Luxembourg-based companies PROgroup and +ImpaKT to enhance its circular economy and sustainability offerings across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
