Suez NWS, together with its partner Huaibei City Construction Investment, has signed a contract to build and operate a hazardous waste management facility in Huaibei City, northern Anhui Province, China.

Estimated to cost RMB950m ($135.3m), the new facility is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2021.

A joint venture, named Huaibei SUEZ Environmental Services, is planned to be launched by SUEZ NWS and Huaibei City Construction.

The JV, which will be 70% owned by SUEZ NWS and 30% by Huaibei City Construction, will invest, build and operate the integrated industrial hazardous waste management facility.

Planned to be built in the “New Coal Chemical Synthetic Material” industrial complex, the new facility will feature Energy from Waste unit with a 30,000 tonnes annual capacity and a concrete landfill for landfilling non-incinerable hazardous waste.

In addition to ensuring effective treatment of industrial waste, the project is expected to protect the environment and boost the economy.

Construction on the project is scheduled to commence start in the second half of 2020.

The facility, which will comply with the EU emission standards, will comprise an energy recovery system designed to recover and produce 85,000 tonnes of steam per year. The resulting steam will be supplied to the industrial customers in the area.
