Strøm Gundersen, a subsidiary of AF Gruppen, has secured a contract worth about NOK800m ($80m) to revamp the Kommunegården municipal centre in Sandvika, Norway.

The contract will be delivered on behalf of Bærum Kommunale Pensjonskasse.

The existing building stock is being demolished under a separate contract. Once the demolition process is completed, the will be stripped down to the concrete slabs and columns.

Strøm Gundersen will then commence construction on the new municipal centre.

Upon completion, the building will include a gross area of about 33,500m² and have a capacity to accommodate nearly 1,300 activity-based jobs.

The suitable floor plans and technical solutions will be selected to offer the municipality with a better working environment and a flexible, area-efficient, adaptable and operationally-streamlined building during the lease period.

Strøm Gundersen said that the contract will be executed as an integrated project contract.

The contract will be delivered in two phases. The first phase will include a design period featuring the development of the preliminary project while the second phase will involve construction.

Work on the first phase will commence this month and is scheduled to be completed in October 2020. The second phase will begin in October 2020 and is due to be completed in December 2022.

AF Gruppen CEO Morten Grongstad said: “The municipal centre is a very important symbolic building for Sandvika, which is why there are such stringent requirements in terms of its climate impact and flexibility as a whole.

“We look forward to working with Bærum Kommunale Pensjonskasse and their project management team from Insenti on what will be an exciting and comprehensive project.”
