Austria-based construction group STRABAG has secured a contract worth €500m for Scarborough Subway Extension (Line 2) project in Toronto.
The government agencies Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have awarded the contract to design, construct and finance the Advance Tunnel Project.

Secured through a public procurement process, the contract involves tunnelling works for the 7.8km underground extension that will connect the existing terminus at Kennedy Station and Sheppard Avenue/McCowan Road.
It also involves design and construction of launch and extraction shafts, five headwalls for future stations and 14 headwalls for future emergency evacuation buildings.
The construction company stated that the tunnelling works for the project will be executed using a 11.87m tunnel boring machine (TBM).

We are pleased that our tunnelling expertise, which is currently also being applied to the construction of a pumping station and a railway tunnel, has helped to secure another order for us.”
Last month, a consortium of Strabag’s subsidiary ZÜBLIN and Dreßler Bau was awarded a €116m contract by Kommunale Immobilien Dresden for a new public administration centre in Dresden, Germany.
The 33,500m² seven-storey centre will include two underground parking levels and provide workplace for approximately 1,350 employees on an above-ground floor space of 16,700m².
The detailed design phase on the new development is now underway and will be followed by a three-year construction period which is scheduled to commence in spring 2022.
