Real estate developer SRV has signed an agreement with Senate Properties to construct an annex for the National Museum of Finland.
Work on the project will be executed under a spearhead alliance project model, which is estimated to be about €55m.

Of this total project cost, SRV’s share will be approximately €45.6m.
The development phase of the project is scheduled to commence immediately.
The company stated that a separate decision for the implementation phase of the project will be made in this autumn when the project will be recognised in the company’s order backlog.

By GlobalDataTo be built on the current plot of the museum, the new annex will be connected to the historical main building.
Designed by JKMM Architects, the annex will provide additional space for the renewing museum activities and will have approximately 5,700m2 of floor area.
SRV noted that the lowest possible carbon solutions will be implemented in the new building to minimise the carbon footprint of the project.
SRV unit director Marko Räisänen said: “SRV has long traditions in modernising properties that are culturally and historically valuable and developing them to meet future requirements.
“We’re excited to start another major new project – the construction of a new annex to the National Museum, a Finnish national treasure.
“Design and implementation will take sustainable and low-carbon solutions into consideration. We’re currently also modernising the Culture Barracks in Lasipalatsi Square in the centre of Helsinki and renovating both the National Theatre and Snellmania.”
The new annex of the National Museum is scheduled to be completed in summer 2025, with the museum complex planned for inauguration in January 2026.
