SRV signed an agreement with Föreningen Konstsamfundet rf to construct an entertainment centre called Kulttuurikasarmi in Helsinki, Finland.

The new centre will be located in Lasipalatsi Square in the Kamppi district.

Sarc Architects is responsible for the design of Kulttuurikasarmi, while SRV will carry out the construction works.

The scope of work will include a basic renovation of a former bus station in Helsinki and construction of an event stage in Lasipalatsi Square for a variety of performances and open-air concerts.

Additionally, the works will include extending an existing building with underground areas and developing a glass pavilion facing Narinkka Square.

Upon completion, the building will have one underground floor, two overground floors and an attic.

The construction and renovation work are slated to commence this year. The entertainment centre is expected to be completed in 2023.

The project will entail an investment of around €30m, of which €19.5m is the value of the project management contract.

Kulttuurikasarmi will house three new screens for BioRex Cinemas; a large indoor event space with terraces, the glass pavilion and a variety of restaurants and bars operated by NoHo Partners.

SRV Helsinki Metropolitan Area Business Premises senior vice president Jouni Forsman said: “We’ll be carrying out the basic renovation of a building of cultural-historical value with respect for its Origins.

“At the same time, we’ll be creating a brand-new kind of lifecycle-wise urban structure in which we can make better use of the space surrounding the building, which is particularly valuable as the city becomes more densely built-up.

“We’ve previously carried out equally large-scale basic renovations and repurposing in other buildings, such as the University of Helsinki’s Think Corner and Kaisa House.”
