Swedish construction company Skanska has secured a contract worth $57.2m (€47m) from Ylva to renovate a historical building complex into a luxury hotel in Finland.

Located in the heart of Helsinki, the oldest building in the complex was constructed in 1910.

Three separate buildings will be combined into a new hotel which will be part of the Hyatt hotels, and is claimed to be the first in the Nordics. The project will include 224 rooms and 21,000m2 of restaurant spaces.

Skanska stated that the building has high sustainability goals and will be built to achieve LEED certifications.

Renovation work on the project is scheduled commence in June this year with completion planned in the second quarter of 2023.

In a separate development, Skanska announced the completion of preparatory work for a new highway outside Oslo, Norway.

The company secured a $110.39m (SEK920m) contract from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for preparatory work on a part of the new E18 highway between Fornebukrysset and Strand outside Oslo.

The deal is said to be part of E18 Western Corridor that includes a new main highway system between Lysaker in Bærum and Drengsrud in Asker municipality.

The new E18 highway will replace one of Norway’s busiest road sections.

It also noted that E101 Preparatory work between Fornebukrysset and Strand is the second of the two preparatory contracts to be carried out before commencing the actual main development of the E18 Western Corridor.

The main work on the project will include groundwork, mass handling, demolition, remediation work as well as conversion of technical infrastructure.

A new surface water route and parts of surrounding local roads will also be constructed and foundations for provisional bridges and permanent and provisional structures would be built.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to begin in June this year with completion expected in February 2023.
