Swedish construction company Skanska has secured a contract worth $161m from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to rehabilitate sections of the Pulaski Skyway in New Jersey, the US.

The scope of work under the contract involves rehabilitation of sections of the Pulaski Skyway carrying Routes 1 and 9 in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Structural rehabilitation, bearings replacement, pier reconstruction as well as painting of thirteen spans of the Skyway steel truss and superstructure are also included in the contract.

Construction work on the project is planned to be completed in December 2026.

In a separate development, the construction company has secured a contract worth $248m to make improvements to an existing corporate campus in Long Island, New York.

Construction work on the project is expected to be completed in February 2026.

The company noted that both the contracts will be included in the US order bookings for the second quarter of this year.

Recently, Skanska was awarded a contract worth $448m by the New York City Economic Development (NYCEDC) to build a new municipal health lab in Harlem, New York.

The scope of work under the contract involved construction of a new ten-storey municipal health lab at the Harlem Hospital Campus.

The project also includes construction of a new approximately 21,800m2 building, which will feature offices, laboratories and clinical facilities.

Lower portion of the new building will include a lobby, walk-in testing centre, auditorium, as well as several support areas.

Construction work on the new lab is planned to commence in early summer 2022 and scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2026.
