Construction firm Skanska has secured a contract worth £37m from Swiss insurer Zurich Insurance to build its new office building in Swindon, UK.

To be located in the town centre, the new office building will be an anchor project in the Swindon Kimmerfields development.

Skanska has been given the responsibility of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services along with providing piling ground engineering services.

Expected to be completed in 2022, the new office building will have 100,000ft² of office space on six floors with a terrace and a function space at the roof level. The building will have a workspace for more than 950 staff.

With sustainability in mind, the new building has been designed to be a ‘single-use plastic-free’ space, with also an ambition to have no printing or filing and digitisation of all post. The building will also provide electric car charging for visitors.

The building will feature an open atrium staircase to encourage more walking between floors. In order to encourage cyclists for a sustainable means to get to the office, the building will have in place extra facilities.
