Global construction and development firm Construction firm Skanska has inked a further contract with US-based not-for-profit community and specialty hospitals network Orlando Health.

The additional contract is related to the construction of the 371,000ft2 Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute in Florida.

It follows the contract awarded to the company in January this year to build the institute.

The project’s total cost is $187m. Skanska booked a portion of $63.33m in the fourth quarter of last year.

The hospital will have 75 inpatient rooms and ten operating rooms (ORs) while the medical office building will house two floors of ambulatory suites with additional 12 ORs.

The combined inpatient and outpatient facility will offer care to only orthopedic patients.

Skanska noted that construction of the medical pavilion and outpatient surgery centre will complete late next year.

The hospital, which will be built by summer 2023, is expected to create 500 jobs when operational.

The company has already started construction works in November last year. Skanska is also responsible for managing the project’s subcontracting opportunities.

With approximately 7,600 employees, Skanska USA reported sales of $7.8bn (SEK 66bn) last year.

The company is currently involved in several healthcare construction projects in Florida, such as the Gulf Coast Medical Centre in Fort Myers and the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health in South Florida.
