Skanska, a construction company, has secured two construction contracts in the US.

The first contract by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation is valued at $274m (Skr2.8bn).

This contract involves the design and replacement of the Rourke Bridge in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The project includes the removal of the existing bridge, the construction of a new permanent structure, and roadway reconstruction.

It will also include drainage and stormwater management facilities, traffic management, traffic signal enhancements, lighting, landscaping, relocation of highway utilities, and other necessary bridge works.

The project will be accounted for in the second quarter (Q2) of the company’s US order bookings.

The work is scheduled to commence immediately, with an anticipated completion date of February 2030.

Additionally, Skanska has received a supplemental contract from Virginia Tech to build a new College of Engineering building.

The contract, valued at $240m, will be included in the same order bookings as the other contract.

This development is a continuation of the project that began with the demolition of the 15,400m² Randolph Hall.

The construction now moves forward with the renovation of a portion of Hancock Hall to link to the new construction of the five-storey, 28,500m² Mitchell Hall engineering building, which is expected to become one of the largest structures on the Blacksburg campus.

The upcoming building will accommodate five departments: aerospace and ocean engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and engineering education.

Additionally, the project will integrate one of the country’s most significant university-owned wind tunnels and feature advanced classrooms, instructional and research laboratories, and collaboration areas.

The project, which started in early 2024, aims for completion by late 2028.

In April of this year, Skanska was awarded a $102m contract to rehabilitate State Route 78 in San Diego County, California, US.
