Skanska has signed a contract to undertake the main cable dehumidification for the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge in New York, US.
The contract, valued at approximately Skr2.5bn ($249m), was signed with the state’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority. It will be recorded in the company’s US order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.

This project involves designing and installing a primary cable dehumidification system on the bridge’s four cables, along with an acoustic monitoring system.
It will also include the related electrical and communication systems, along with upkeep and monitoring for a period of five years after the system’s commissioning and acceptance.
Follow-up tasks involve conducting an internal inspection of the main cable panels, replacing all cable band bolts, main cable aerial obstruction lights and their supports, messenger cables, hand ropes, and stanchions, stated the company.
The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge serves as a connector between Brooklyn and Staten Island and plays a role in the interstate highway network.

The contract was awarded last month, with completion anticipated in September 2029.
In addition to this, Skanska has recently signed a $91m contract for the Pacific Middle School Replacement Project in Des Moines, Washington, US.
Last month, the UK’s National Highways selected Skanska to spearhead the upgrade of the A47 Thickthorn junction near Norwich, England, under a contract valued at £153m.
The project involves building a new 1.6km free-flow link road that will connect the A11 northbound to the A47 eastbound and will include the construction of two new underpasses.
