Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has appointed contractors for two major civil projects on the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTL2e), with a total contract value of approximately S$735m ($579m).  

Construction of both new stations is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2026, with passenger service expected to begin in 2035.

Woh Hup Engineering received a contract worth about S$285m to design and build the DE1 underground station along Sungei Kadut Avenue.  

This contract also covers the construction of a vehicular bridge extending Choa Chu Kang North 7 and a pedestrian bridge over Pang Sua Canal to connect Yew Tee, DE1 station, and the Rail Corridor. 

Woh Hup Engineering, a Singapore-registered construction firm, is currently working on other rail projects including the Punggol Interchange station for the Cross Island Line Punggol Extension and CR3 station for Cross Island Line Phase 1.  

The company will also carry out tunnelling works between DE1 and DE2 interchange stations as part of the DTL2e project.

A joint venture between Samwoh and the Singapore branch of China Communications Construction Company secured the contract for the design and construction of the NS6/DE2 interchange station.  

Valued at around S$450m, this contract involves building an underground DE2 station on the DTL and a connected aboveground NS6 station located between Yew Tee and Kranji on the North-South Line (NSL).  

Samwoh has previously delivered projects such as the Sentosa Gateway Tunnel and road enhancements at the Changi Northern and Southern Corridors.  

China Communications Construction Company continues work on several local transport infrastructure projects, including the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System Link. 

The DE1 and NS6/DE2 stations are positioned along Sungei Kadut Avenue and Sungei Kadut Central, respectively.  

Construction will utilise Earth Retaining and Stabilising Structures (ERSS) to address challenging ground conditions like hard granite.  

The proximity to existing NSL operations means works will take place in restricted areas, with coordination between LTA, SMRT, and other agencies ensuring that most activities affecting train service occur during non-operating hours. 

Real-time monitoring systems will be in place throughout construction to track ground stability and manage safety risks.  

“LTA has also carried out a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment and will implement all the necessary mitigation measures as outlined in the Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan,” LTA said in a statement. 

During the construction phase, the authority plans to work closely with relevant stakeholders to control dust, noise, safety hazards, and vector issues at the sites.  

Appointed contractors will work closely with residents and stakeholders to “minimise any disruption and inconvenience that may be caused,” LTA said, adding that regular updates on the progress of the works will be provided. 

The DTL2e project will include three stations, with DE1 as an underground stop after Bukit Panjang on Sungei Kadut Avenue, and DE2 as an underground interchange linked to the new aboveground NS6 station between Yew Tee and Kranji on the North-South Line. 

The project is expected to improve rail access and reduce travel times in the north-west, with better connectivity to Yew Tee, Sungei Kadut Eco-District, the Rail Corridor, and Pang Sua Park Connector.
