Danish design firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects has entered into a strategic partnership with Perkins+Will to expand its international reach.
Set up in 1986, Schmidt Hammer Lassen was responsible for sustainable cultural and civic architecture, which includes the Black Diamond extension to the Royal Library in Copenhagen, the ARoS Museum of Art in Denmark and Halifax Central Library in Canada.

Recently, it won a global competition to design the 1.2 million square foot Shanghai East Library. It is also now working on the Monroe Blocks mixed-use development in Detroit, Michigan, which is Schmidt’s first project in the US.

The two firms claim that the partnership will lead to new market strategies.
Perkins+Will intends to diversify its global talent, expand its cultural and civic practice, and bolster its design portfolio while Schmidt Hammer Lassen plans to widen its geographic base.
