Samsung C&T Engineering and Construction (E&C) Group is set to begin construction of solar plants in Qatar for QatarEnergy.

The company will build 417MW and 458MW solar plants at Mesaieed, around 40km south of Qatar’s capital Doha, and in Ras Laffan, around 80km north of Doha respectively.

Construction of the plants will begin this month and are expected to complete in November 2024.

Samsung C&T E&C is the sole engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for Qatar’s industrial cities solar power project (IC Solar).

The contract for the solar plants was awarded in August by QatarEnergy Renewable Solutions, a newly formed wholly owned affiliate of QatarEnergy.

Samsung C&T E&C will install 1.6 million solar panels.

The plants are being built with an investment of $630.33m.

Following completion, the solar plants will supply power to facilities in the industrial complex owned by QatarEnergy and Qatar’s national electrical grid.

Recently, the Samsung C&T E&C finished building a 60MW power plant and an energy storage system in Mangilao, Guam.

Besides solar power plants, Samsung C&T E&C is bolstering its portfolio of eco-friendly businesses such as green hydrogen, ammonia, and small modular reactors (SMRs).
