Sustainable, steel-based building products supplier Ruukki Construction has announced the launch of a new product, the Ruukki Sono acoustic partition wall element.

This element is part of the Ruukki Sound Environment product family, aimed at improving the acoustic performance of indoor spaces in industrial and office settings.

The Ruukki Sono wall element is stated to feature an optimised perforation pattern and a core made of high-quality mineral wool, which together mitigate background noise, echoes, and reverberation.

The product boasts fire safety features, including an absorption class A rating, airborne sound insulation, and fire resistance.

Suitable for both new constructions and renovations, the Ruukki Sono element can be installed horizontally or vertically. It is designed to be compatible with standard Ruukki sandwich panels, owing to an identical joint design.

The standard width of 1,200mm allows for division into two 600mm modules, making it an ideal solution for sound-absorbing partition walls, states Ruukki Construction.

The exterior of the Ruukki Sono partition wall element is made of colour-coated steel, available in standard colours as well as a wide range of options to support architectural design.

Ruukki Building Envelopes Finland business director Jani Backlund said: “Acoustics are a key part of the user experience in buildings. With Ruukki Sono, our customers can design quieter, more focused spaces – cost-efficiently and without compromising on fire safety.”

Manufactured sustainably at the Ruukki plant in Alajärvi, Finland, the product will be available in the Finnish market from June 2025.

The company plans to expand the launch to other Nordic and Baltic countries subsequently.

Ruukki Building Envelopes Finland portfolio manager Esa Lehtimäki said: “The new acoustic partition wall element – combining performance, design and safety – is a great example of how we turn customer needs and sustainability targets into smart building solutions.”

In November 2024, Ruukki Construction inaugurated a new roof profile production line in Vimpeli, Finland.
